Join the Bin Trim Program

Bin Trim is a program run by the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). Available to businesses in NSW, it is the largest business recycling program of its type in Australia. Between 2014 and 2022, the program engaged more than 38,000 businesses, diverting more than 260,000 tonnes of waste from landfill.

Bin Trim Equipment Rebates Program

The updated Bin Trim Equipment Rebates Program is offering $6 million in rebates to encourage uptake of recycling equipment and technology in NSW. Rebates of up to $50,000 are available, covering up to 50 per cent of the capital cost of small-scale, on-site equipment and technology.

What equipment do the rebates cover?
The rebates cover a variety of products that are designed to increase efficiency of material use and/or reduce waste including source separation bins, balers, shredders, commercial worm farms, glass crushers, trolleys to transport waste, and more.

Who can apply for the rebate?
The funding is open to all NSW businesses, councils, and organisations (including schools, charities, not-for-profits, and hospitals) that meet the following criteria:

  • Use a commercial and industrial waste service at a site in NSW;
  • Have a valid Australian Business Number (ABN);
  • Employ one or more full-time employees; and
  • Send commercial and industrial waste to landfill.

Applications are open until 2027 or until funding is exhausted. For more information about the Bin Trim Equipment Rebates Program including guidelines for applicants, visit the NSW EPA website.

How can I find recycling equipment?
Planet Ark’s Recycling Equipment Catalogue is a free directory that businesses and organisations can use to find a variety of waste management products such as small-scale recycling equipment, bins, worm farms, digestors, balers, and more.

Bin Trim Networks Program

Launched in 2023, the Bin Trim Networks Program was designed to establish or enhance business circular economy networks where member businesses have commonalities relating to location, supply chain, industry sector, or specific waste materials.

Applications for the Bin Trim Networks Program closed on 24 March 2023. $6 million of grant funding was awarded to 14 projects which will support around 4,000 businesses to reduce waste by 35,000 tonnes per year.
