Why Recycle?
Using coffee capsules in the office and home has become popular in Australia. These capsules currently cannot be accepted in mixed recycling bins.

Recycling Options
There are various coffee capsule recycling programs for workplaces or your community. Nespresso and TerraCycle provide collection programs. Check with other manufacturers to find out if they run a recycling program for their capsules.
There are also drop off options for Nespresso capsules:
- Return your used capsules to your nearest Nespresso boutique.
- Drop off your used capsules at your nearest participating florist or garden drop off centre.
- Fill your Nespresso Australia Post satchel with used capsules and return via Australia Post.
Planet Ark is currently leading the development of a coffee capsule product stewardship scheme in partnership with Nespresso and Woolworths, funded by the Australian Government.
What Happens When It's Recycled?
From the Nespresso recycling program, once collected, the capsules are sent to a specialist recycling plant where dedicated equipment separates the aluminium from the used coffee grounds. The coffee grounds are then sent to make compost and the aluminium is bailed and sent back into the aluminium industry to manufacture new products.
