New funding support for Northern Territory recyclers
By Nicholas Scaltrito 13 December 2022
The second round of funding for Northern Territory based recyclers is now available for waste materials subject to export bans.
The NT Recycling Modernisation Fund (NT RMF) is a joint initiative supported by the Australian Government and the Northern Territory Government to improve recycling outcomes within the territory. This round of grants through the NT RMF provides $1.47 million in funding support for industry infrastructure expansions or upgrades to address the Northern Territory’s gaps in recycling, reprocessing or remanufacturing capacity.
Grants of up to $20,000 are available on a 50:50 co-contribution basis. This funding has been established to support organisations who collect, recycle, and/or repurpose plastics, paper and cardboard, glass, or tyres, materials which are subjected to waste export bans. These waste streams are of specific focus for Round 2 and applications in these areas will be prioritised. Grant applications will be open until 28 February 2023.
Eligible businesses for the grant include for-profit or not-for-profit organisations such as sole traders, partnerships, local governing bodies, or Aboriginal organisations. They must hold a valid ABN operating within the Northern Territory and be able to commit to the 50 per cent co-contribution fund for project costs. Successful applicants of round 1 can also apply for round 2 if funding is not for the same project or activity.
More information regarding eligibility for NT RMF can be found in the Recycling Modernisation Fund terms and conditions. Once submitted, grant applications will be assessed against priority criteria for suitability to funding. The project is also subject to final approval by the NT and Australian governments.
You can apply directly, online through GrantsNT.
