Other Metals

Metals used in smaller quantities such as gold, nickel and zinc can be recycled. This saves energy compared to the mining, extracting and processing of raw minerals and ores needed to produce new metals. Recycled metal is of comparable quality to the original product.

Why Recycle?

Other non-ferrous and precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, nickel and zinc can all be recycled effectively. Metals are made from non-renewable minerals and ores, which must be mined from the earth and converted into metals that can be used in products. In order to convert the raw ore, metal industries consume large amounts of energy to melt and extract the metals. However by recycling metals much of the energy normally required to produce metals from virgin material is saved, which can reduce emissions and other outputs such water usage. Recycling metals can also significantly reduce the demand placed on natural resources, and reduces the amount of unnecessary waste sent to land fill.

Recycling Options

There are non-ferrous scrap metal recyclers operating in all states of Australia. Many of these provide both pick up and drop off services and most will purchase scrap metal at market price.

What Happens When It’s Recycled?

All types of scrap metal is collected by metal recyclers, it is then broken down with large shredders and sorted by type. Sorted metals are melted down and cast into useable shapes such ingots. These will then be further processed for use in a range of products. Recycled metals are generally of the same standard as the original product.
