The waste audit was conducted by Exis Pty Ltd, an independent auditor who found: "Operations at CtL continue to be well managed and controlled through the quality and environmental management systems, with documentary evidence available for all output streams examined during the audit."
The audit has recommended process upgrades relating to the very small amounts of contaminated plastic being received. This will build upon the innovative technologies that have been developed by Close the Loop® to safely shred and separate the various materials from printer cartridges. These processes allow materials to be recovered and turned into products such as felt tip pens, raised garden beds, plastic rulers, and metal cans.
Close the Loop® has provided the collection, recycling and resource recovery operations for the ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' program since its conception in 2003. The 'Zero Waste' philosophy has been pursued for 10 years, and continues to lead the electronics industry away from adding to landfill.
And with just over 19 million cartridges recycled since the program began, we are confident the big 20 million target can be reached by the end of its tenth year!
