NSW EPA announces recycling, organics and infrastructures grants and awards

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) announces a number of grants and awards in relation to recycling, organics and infrastructure.

 

 

Waste Less, Recycle More Grants information session

What: The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) will be holding an information session for the following grant programs, NEW Product Improvement Program - Round 1, Circulate (Industrial Ecology) – Round 3, Civil Construction Market Program – Round 1.
This information session will be followed by a Financial Workshop focused on the completing Cost Benefit and Economic Analysis aspects. This is only relevant for the New Product Improvement Program grant application.

When: Thursday 5th July 2018. The information session will be from 10am-11.25am. Financial Workshop will be from 11.50am-12.30pm.

Where: Venue will be confirmed on registration (Sydney CBD) and/or via webinar

Who: Local government, business, industry and not-for-profit organisations

How: Register to attend the information session on 05 July 2018 from 10am-11.25am this will be followed by the workshop between 11.50am-12.30pm in the Sydney CBD (venue confirmed on registration)

Organics Infrastructure Fund Grants awarded

Food Donation Education Round 1
Round 1 of the Food Donation Education Grants Program has awarded $971,733 to 11 projects. They include $225,210 to OzHarvest to work with supermarkets to increase donation opportunities and $24,500 to North East Waste to research gaps in opportunity to boost future donations. 

Love Food Hate Waste Round 5
Round 5 of the Love Food Hate Waste Grants Program has awarded $531,248 to 18 projects. They include $75,192 to Metcash IGA to roll out the EPA’s new Food Smart Household Education Program to its customers and the Your Business is Food program in store and $57,291 to Lendlease to deliver Your Business is Food to food businesses at Barangaroo. 

Organics Market Development Round 2
Round 2 of the Organics Market Development Grants has awarded $2,266,369 to 13 projects. They include $245,253 to Applied Horticultural Research to demonstrate the benefits of recycled organics to vegetable growers across NSW and $227,480 to AgEnviro to expand and develop new turf markets for compost.

Infrastructure Grants announced

The NSW Environment Protection Authority has announced the successful grant recipients under Rounds 5 of the Resource Recovery Facility Expansion and Enhancement program and Weighbridge Fund.

Resource Recovery Facility Expansion and Enhancement program

There was strong competition for funds with 17 applications received across two streams. The EPA approved 8 applications valued at over $3.6 million. Successful grants are listed below and details are available on the EPA website at www.epa.nsw.gov.au/working-together/grants/infrastructure-fund/resource-recovery-expansion-enhancement. This program aims to increase the amount of waste materials recycled by accelerating and stimulating investment in recycling infrastructure at existing licensed recycling facilities, and increasing resource recovery to meet the NSW 2021 recycling targets.

Round 5 Weighbridge Fund

MidCoast Council have been awarded $59,700 under Round 5 of the Weighbridge Fund. Council will install a weighbridge at their Tea Gardens Waste Transfer Station facility to weigh vehicles and trucks entering and exiting the premises. The weighbridge will ensure accurate data will be recorded for items entering and leaving the site. The grant has been awarded under the NSW EPA’s $500,000 Weighbridge Fund as part of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.

Major Resource Recovery Infrastructure program

This program funds the construction of major recycling and processing facilities that will cost effectively increase recycling of materials from businesses, industry and households.
The EPA, in partnership with the Environmental Trust, have approved 6 applications valued at over $20 million. Successful grants are listed below and details are available on the Environmental Trust website.

  • Albury City Council - C&I and C&D MRF
  • Polytrade Recycling – Glass beneficiation
  • Polytrade Recycling – Plastics processing
  • Remondis Australia Pty Ltd – Resource Recovery Facility
  • Tyrecycle Pty Ltd – Rubber crumb and granules

Community Recycling Centre Grants awarded


Round 4 of the Community Recycling Centres grant program has now been announced. A total of $992,218 has been allocated to 5 Councils for new Community Recycling Centres. Congratulations to City of Sydney, Camden, Goulburn Mulwaree, Wagga Wagga City and Lake Macquarie City Councils. It’s fantastic to see these Councils taking advantage of the funding and services available to help residents safely dispose of household problem waste.
