Resource recovery...the way forward
Author: Janet Sparrow
Industrial Ecology promotes enhanced sustainability by stimulating innovations in the reuse of waste materials. The wastes or by-products of one industry are used as inputs in another industry, thereby closing the material loop of industrial systems and minimising waste.
The second Australasian Industrial Ecology Conference will be held at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney from 2 – 3 September 2010. The conference is held on behalf of the Australian Industrial Ecology Network (AIEN) a working group of the Waste Management Association of Australia.
The conference aims to promote the practice of industrial ecology (IE) in Australia and showcase leading examples practiced in Australia and internationally. This conference is designed to contribute towards the following objectives of the AIEN:
- Encourage the practice of IE in Australia
- Interact with Government to facilitate IE
- Liaise with international organisations involved with IE
- Develop knowledge and tools for IE
The theme of this year’s conference is 'Resource Recovery…the way forward'
